Trip to Peru

My husband and I just returned home from two weeks in Peru – wonderful days exploding with adventure.

  • Paragliding in the Andes mountains
  • 3:45 am pick ups from the hotel with our touring group
  • climbing high to the top of temples full of stories with great mystery
  • “ATV – ing”  in the salt mines
  • Trying new fruits, vegetables and meat
  • Sitting on balconies-for-two, overlooking the  stunning city center of Cusco
  • Walking 35 – 50, 000 steps/day which seemed to always be uphill 
  • Meeting new friends from all over the world
  • Discovering “muna” – a delicious, digestive tea
  • Experiencing such genuine, loving hospitality from the people of Peru – in restaurants, on the street, tour guides etc.
  • Trying to fall asleep to the deep boom sound of the bass in the nearby bar
  • Meeting many gentle alpacas
  • Appreciating the beautiful cobble stone roads
  • Enjoying the handcrafts of women and children
  • Savouring quiet early morning prayer walks
  • Breathing in the overwhelming, breath taking  beauty of the Andes mountains – pictures can’t capture the height, fullness and majesty surrounding us
  • Taking in the deep and long history of this country
  • …and so much more!

Throughout this trip, I intentionally noticed moments of deep peace….moments when I was able to pull away from the noise and the crowds, breathe deeply and express praise to God for the feelings of deep peace and immense joy.

I remember this moment – I had just climbed to the top of Rainbow Mountain (altitude of 5400 metres above sea level) and I just couldn’t help but raise my hands in absolute awe of the surrounding beauty.

Place yourself in the path of oncoming beauty. Dr. Curt Thompson

Let your God

love you.

Be silent.

be still.

Alone. Empty.

Before your God,

say nothing,

ask nothing.

Be silent,

be still.

Let your God look

upon you.

That is all.

God knows,

God understands,

God loves you with an

enormous love.

God only wants to look upon you with

gracious love.

Quiet.

Still.

Be.

Let your God love you.

  1. Diane – thanks for sharing about your trip to Peru! The picture says it all. God is the creator of beautiful things all over our world. Even sitting on my front porch I often raise my arms and face to God in a silent expression of His goodness and His masterpiece all around me. It is new everyday!!
